Returning a tenancy deposit at the end of a tenancy

When you leave – providing you and your landlord or agent both agree on how much of the deposit you should get back – if your deposit has been protected, you should get it back within 10 days.
Depending on which scheme your landlord used, you may also receive some interest on your deposit.
Ask your landlord or agent for a breakdown of any amounts deducted from your deposit. There are rules on what can be deducted from your deposit Your landlord or agent cannot charge you to cover normal wear and tear.
It is a good idea for both landlords and tenants to have agreed an inventory at the start of the tenancy to avoid disputes over deposits.
·         Always agree a detailed inventory with photos at the start of a tenancy.
·         There are rules on items your landlord can deduct. Ask for item details.
